Chief Environment Strategy & Compliance Officer, EDF Energy
Jonathan has spent the last 10 years working for EDF Energy to ensure the Company’s Environmental and Sustainability ambitions can be proactively and consistently embedded throughout all operations and activities. Jonathan works closely with the regulators, government departments and key stakeholders such as Business in the Community (BITC), the Wildlife Trusts to support the development of safe, affordable and low carbon energy. Jonathan has been central to the work to ensure that EDF Energy has taken positive steps to both mitigate and adapt to a future where climate change will impact the business and society.
From 2004 and 2006 he worked for Centrica Energy (CE) and ensured they could meet the requirements of the newly introduced EU Emission Trading Scheme. He has also held a variety of policy roles within Government agencies and has contributed to the implementation of the EU Emission Trading scheme, Large Combustion Plant Directive and Habitats Directive.
Jonathan strongly believes that the challenges we’re facing as a country grow more pressing. We must keep the lights on while keeping prices affordable and addressing climate change. As an energy company, these issues present a fundamental challenge to our business. Integrating sustainability at the heart of our business has helped us to be ready to adapt to the future and to develop new opportunities.
